Hello There!
My name is Desaray and I write books that introduce children to the world and help them gain cultural competence at an early age. I am committed to helping children explore the beauty of all cultures through books and through art! My hope is that my writing and classes will help children discover common affirmations that exist among all people in order to grow their own confidence as global citizens.
In school, writing felt like a constant battle with grammar, and let’s just say, my grammar was a circus of comma splices! I had no idea how to tackle semicolons and thought’d forever be the reader, never the writer.
So, I channeled my energy into art. I discovered Gustav Klimt and the enchanting tale behind Christina's World. I created and sold pottery and even earned a few awards for my paintings. It was a beautiful journey into visual arts!
Fast forward decades later, and here I am, an author and art teacher living the dream! Achieving what I once thought was impossible fills me with such joy! As the President of the Children's Book Guild of Washington DC and a proud member of SCBWI, I’m thrilled to inspire others.
When I’m not immersed in writing or creating art, you’ll catch me sewing, drawing, or experimenting with new recipes. I'm happily married to my college sweetheart, and we live just outside Washington, where I homeschool our four amazing kids!
